Hinges good. 3rd and 5th work with half title pages removed, 3rd work possibly lacks a frontispiece? Text complete. Tidy internally, some foxing to the first and second works, some marking in places. End papers are new, crisp and clean. Good condition, variable toning/light browning, the page edges are uncut/rough. Many adverts for books, with adverts for other items also, including; Thornton's Tally Ho Sauce, Minter's easy chairs, May's medicated honey, Frank's Specific solution of Copaiba, T. Cox Savory watchmaker and goldsmith, and lots more.

Green cloth bindings, slightly later 19th century bindings retaining the publisher's original covers internally (Knights Weekly Volume). The cloth is rubbed, the inner hinges have loosened (loosened internally) and the text blocks loosening from the covers, volume 1 with repaired tear to the title page and the introduction page, with the repair covering but not obscuring the text on the intro page, margin repair to 42 in volume 2. Loss of leather at the top of the spine above the title label, leather cracked at the spine edges, covers are secure- handle the front cover with a little care. Armorial bookplate of Geroge Miller on the endpaper, and later 1864 inscription on the end paper also. Original binders label still on the endpaper (Neil of Glasgow). Foxing mainly affecting the first and last few pages otherwise tidy internally. Pages; IV, 167. A look into marriage in Scotland, covering its history, law, types of marriage & more. Nice looking polished leather covers, the text is complete, the titles are browned, toning to the pages, the odd foxing spot. With a frontispiece and engraved title, armorial bookplate of Robert Philips on the endpaper. Pages; (4), 184, 587, (5). Volume 1 containing Juvenal's satires in full, all 16 books, with extensive index (vol 2 contained the commentaries).

Comprehensive periodical literary review, covers Prescott's Conquest of Peru (20 pages), Adventures on the Western Coast of South America by Coulter (17 pages), The Birds of Jamaica by Gosse (16 pages), and many many others. No general title included in this volume (as is sometimes the case with bound periodicals), drop head title at the start of each part/month. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall

From the Earl's of Meath collection, Countess of Meath signature on the front cover, and another Meath signature at the top of page 1. First edition, with half title.

Full leather binding, two spots of leather loss on the front cover and one spot on the rear cover, leather cracking at the spine edges, covers are secure. Small hole on 39 affecting a couple of words, name clipped from the top margin of the title page, margin corner nick to 32, a few sheets slightly loose, toning and some marking to the pages, a few youthful 1827 signatures of Anne Welsh on the endpapers. Pages; 191, (1). Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall

London: Longman, 1816. Half-Leather. Good. Half leather with marbled covers. Fading on the spine a bit, covers rubbed, wear at the ends and board edges. The hinges are in good order. The text is complete, tidy internally, toning to the pages, mostly minor marking, stain to the corner of the frontispiece, and slightly to the top corner of the title, faded out after that. 20th century ink inscription on the endpaper (Madeleine Gavin, Ballina, 1963). Pages; (10), 216, (209-216*), 217-250, (4). The section marked * is a poem called Ode to the Memory of Burns which must have been a late addition, 4 pages of publisher ads at the rear, half title at the start, copper plate frontispiece plate drawn by R. The text is complete, tidy internally, toning/light browning to the pages. IHS Society of Jesus in Galway stamp on the endpaper and to one other margin, early owners name of Joseph Daly at the top of the title page. Pages; XV, (1), 514.

Full leather bindings with gilt spines, France vol with leather cracking at the spine edges and rubbing on the spine, the hinges are in reasonably good order, handle with the usual care. Spain & Portugal with loss of leather at the bottom of the spine, hinges secure. Armorial bookplate of Robert Philips on the endpapers. France vol- the pages are bright, foxing on the title, light browning to the map. Spain & Portugal with browning to the endpapers & title, and toning to the pages. Pages; XII, 507, (1) / XVI, 364. Contains a fold out map of France. A history of France (1836) from the end of the first millenium, the Vikings, end of the Carlovingians, the wars in Normandy, Crusades, right upto the 1500's. / Sold with The History of Spain & Portugal (1833), from earliest times, with a 12 page chronological table of notable events.

Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1826. Cloth. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Plain modern brown cloth, the hinges are in excellent condition, cloth unmarked. The text is complete, foxing to the first 50 pages, periodical after, the pages are fairly bright and tidy. Ex Newport library, neat pictorial ship style bookplate on the endpaper, number etched out at the base of the spine, and small neat circular stamp on the title reverse, top of page 1, last page margin, and top corner margin on a couple of other pages, a fairly tidy volume. Pages; (4), 637, (1). Covers 1642-1643, + appendixes at the rear.
