With a dissertation by John Clarke, and the life of Sallust by Monsieur Le Clerc. Ex-library, with bookplate on the front pastedown. Lacks title page and the first 24 pages (i.e., most of the dissertation by John Clarke), else complete. Near contemporary full levant leather, gold tooling, all edges speckled red. Moderate scuffing to the board edges and spine, very good. Scarce. *ESTC* (T131423) locates 7 copies. From the library of the artists Ben Shahn and Bernarda Bryson Shahn, with an estate label designed by their son, Jonathan Shahn.
