Founded and edited by the great Victorian reform journalist William Thomas Stead, *The Review of Reviews* was the first true tabloid magazine that reached a global audience. A pioneering investigative journalist and feminist, Stead was the first editor to employ female journalists, and accordingly there are many articles from both volumes that profile several of the leading suffragists of the day. Like Rupert Murdoch, he wielded considerable political influence, and was at the time the best known Englishman who went down in the Titanic. A handsome set.
