Good condition for a book printed in 1918. No Jacket. Red cloth over boards with Green text on front and spine. Spine is seriously faded and shows much wear. The front has a couple light spots. There is some edge wear and corners are bent. Closed book page edges have some soiling. Pages are seriously age tanned/discolored but text is clean. Binding is tight. Overall, a good reading copy.

Book - Good condition. Dark green leather cover with black title and image embossed on front cover and black text on spine. There is some edge and corner wear. Orange and white illustrated end papers have a previous owner's name in the "Belongs to" box. Closed book pages have some soiling and the top has a stain at the corner, but it is only visible on the edges of the pages. The pages are age tanned, but free of marks. The binding is very good.
Dust Jacket - Fair condition; however, the spine is missing chips at both top and bottom and near bottom but above publisher. There are some other small chips and tears along the edges and corners. Good condition. red paper on boards has black illustration on fron cover, a printed "seal" on back cover, and black text on spine. Spine is lightly faded. There is very little edge wear, but significant bottom corners wear, plus wear at spine. The page opposite the title page has come loose at the spine approximately two inches from top. There are also a couple small (1/4") closed tears at the bottom of a couple pages near the back. Pages are age tanned, but do not have any marks or writing. There are several illustrations.

This story is about a brother and sister, Bertha & Charlie Archer, orphans. It begins in Boston and appears to follow them through life.This book has blue cloth over boards and has an elaborate decorative design with books in the center impressed on the front. It is accented with black and orange. There is more design on the spine with a block of rubbed gold gilt with the title in the blue cover color. There are black and white illustrations scattered throughout the book. Fair condition. Spine and corners have much rubbing and wear, edges are not as bad. Both front and back end papers have split. Front end paper has inscription to Olive J. Rice from Grandma Rice in ink with a date in pencil underneath that might be: 1854 or 1894. Book pages have age tanned, but text is clean and binding is good except pages 275-283 have pulled away a little bit at the top, but not enough to be loose.446 pages.
