Description:
From the front dust jacket flap: "...United States had three brilliant commanders, Rogers, Decatur, and Hull, and it was their job to keep the Constitution, the President, and the one or two other ships that made up the entire U.S. fleet busy harassing the British until a United States Navy could be built. Congress limited the great ship designer, Joshua Humphreys, to build ships no larger than frigates - with the result that he made them the best in the world and the frigate became the fighting cock of the sea."Book: Very Good- condition. Endpapers illustrated with black & white world map. Inscription to previous owner in pencil on front endpaper, 1957. Description:
From the inside dust jacket:
The true story that we had been spotted seemed almost certain with the arrival of a floatplane and then four bombers. The planes did not bother us as much as the ear-splitting echo-ranging of the destroyer, the pings blasting through our hull as she closed the range.
"Set all torpedoes on two feet and open the outer doors!" . . . from the Fourth Patrol, Part V.
The hunter has become the hunted, and thus begins the classic dance of death between destroyer and submarine, which may end with a crashing salvo of depth charges or the zing of a 21-inch torpedo. Packed with the danger, tension, and drama of submarine warfare, this scene has been replayed countless times in fact and fiction, but never before with such authentic firsthand detail.
Samuel Eliot Morison called Tang "fabulous." Vice Admiral Charles A. Lockwood, commander of the submarine force in the Pacific during World War II, described her fifth patrol as "one of the great submarine cruises of all time." Richard… Read More

Description:
Sequel to At Dawn We Slept. From front DJ flap: "The Battle of Midway Island was the turning point for naval dominance in the Pacific Theater. ...bit by bit, the Japanese naval code was broken...Nimitz flew to the island [Midway] at once to review its defense - and to set in motion the flexible and operational tactics by which an inferior U.S. fleet faced an overwhelmingly superior Japanese Navy, whose leaders were ablaze with overconfidence, and plunged it into the sea." Book - Very Good- condition. Red paper over boards w silver gilt on navy cloth spine. Light soiling to bottom corner and top of closed book page edges. Ex Libris sticker for previous owner, plus a 1982 ink note. Text is clean and binding is tight. Dust Jacket - Very Good- condition. Printed side looks good except for a torn corner where the price would have been. But the inside has both tanning and blue stains that appear to be from glue and navy dye. Please use photos as part of the description. 469 pages including Index.

Description:
This is the story of Dick Schaefer who joined the Navy on impulse, hoping that he would have some control over his future. He was not fully aware of the increasing military action in Vietnam. His account of his time at boot camp is wry and rollicking. He received orders to report to the US Naval Hospital Corps School, which suited him. He requested assignment to Hawaii, but there was no naval hospital so he was assigned to the Fleet Marine Force for three years.Book - Near Fine condition. I did note though that the bottom corners have been bumped a tiny bit, otherwise no edge/corner wear. There are at least 5 pages that have corner creases that have been straightened out. Pages are clean and tight. This book looks like it has never been read. There are some black & white illustrations.Dust Jacket - Fine condiiton. No edge or corner wear. Please use photos as part of the description.163 pages including Index.
