Memoir recounting author's experiences growing up as the son of Japanese immigrants and being incarcerated at Rohwer. Omi is a longtime resident of Mill Valley, and a retired landscape architect. During World War II, he was incarcerated along with his family at Rohwer in Arkansas. He later served in Korea, and then returned to UC Berkeley to obtain a degree in landscape architecture.

Long inscription on page [7] signed Alma Elliot. Church brochure with service schedule and dinner menu. Alma Elliot, the Church Clerk, has written a long note to a friend or relative living elsewhere providing updates on people and recent events.

Inscribed by former owner on title page and title page verso: "Mary Batchelor, K-15, Caparra Heights, Puerto Rico, March 1954.". Folk tales narrated by Becky Vance, who, according to the introduction, is the informant for Margaret Strain, a tourist and doll merchant. Written in dialect. WorldCat has only one location, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, as of June 2023.

Bethesda: International Scholars Publications, 1995. Paperback. 80p., preface, references, illustrations, family trees, signed by the author, very good first edition trade paperback in pictorial wraps. Vanity press biography of the author's mother in celebration of her life and 100th birthday.

Little Rock: Printed by Bass Printing Co. for the school, 1969. Pamphlet. 54p., printed on tinted paperstock throughout, staplebound 9x6 inch booklet with terminal blanks for student comment and salutations, of which many, many by contributors. Sort of a yearbook for Arkansas proto-intellectuals. Slight soil, a nice copy. Arkansas had been integrated for a decade at this time of publication; FYI, we see no black power material.

Little Rock, AK: St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1962. Handbill. 8.5x11 inch sheet printed both sides, horizontal fold crease, minor silverfish nibble to top edge. Text of a letter angrily responding to a piece about the author in Photoplay magazine, which had pointed out that Winrod had been disavowed by the Lutheran Church and called him a "chip off the old blockhead" for his relationship to his father, the "Jayhawk Nazi" Gerald Winrod. Winrod accuses mainstream churches of cowardice. "Anyone who fights 'Communism' but does not openly fight the Jews IS A FAKER! Beware of them, for they are like a plague of vermin crawling on the body politic...

n.p., 1957. 6.75x8.5 inch sheet of pink paper, faintly fold-creased, with mimeographed text of a racist poem, based on "Twas the Night Before Christmas," lamenting the integration of schools in Little Rock. "Ol' Ike had orders / To mix up the schools / But Ol' Faubus said, 'Hold it / We ain't no fools. / If you know what's good, / You will stand back and listen / 'Cause we ain't going to stand / For no nigger mixing.'" Goes on to describe the deployment of the National Guard against the governor's wishes. "Ol' Ike won the battle / And Ol' Faubus is grieving / But God help the niggers / When the troops start leaving." Not found in OCLC, but the University of Arkansas has a slightly variant example which includes a title explicitly linking it to the Little Rock Central High conflict.

Illustrated profusely with maps and b&w photographs of Stockton Assembly Center, Santa Anita Assembly Center, and Rohwer Relocation Center. Includes historical context and timeline of events. Cover title: "Rohwer Relocation Center: War Relocation Authority, McGehee, Arkansas, 1942-1945." Ishimaru was born in 1923 in El Centro, and was incarcerated at Poston during World War II. He was released early and employed in New York City at Billy Rose's Diamond Horseshoe Nightclub as a photographer. He later graduated from the University of Southern California, and worked in the Los Angeles Unified School District for over 40 years. He passed away in 2018.

That said, a very nice copy: softbound in 10.5x8 inch plain printed grey wraps, presswork on glazed alkaline paperstock; illustrated with a number of b&w period vignettes and a fullpage line map. The corner-tips of our offering are lightly turned, else fine. American explorers in the first half of the nineteenth century mistook fertile prairie land for inhospitable "desert", and other similar notions that created an apprehension that the way west of the Mississippi River was blocked by impassable terrain. Mr Stephen Long was a perpetuator of this error.
