no city, England: Rupert Hart-Davis, unpublished ephemera, 1920. Ephemera. Light cardstock folded once to make a 3.5x5 inch rectangular card featuring the graphic in a printed intaglio frame. Opens up to other signs of professional production and the presenters' names in nibbed inkpen. A bit worn and dusty, good exemplar. . . We were about to toss to scavengers when we grokked the signature, which could have as easily been Rupert's.

Hardcover. 288p., profusely illus., previous owner's name penned on free front endpaper, free front endpaper creased, else very good condition in an unclipped and yellowed dust jacket with a 0.5 inch closed tear on the front panel.

Hartland, VT: Solitarian Press, 1933. Pamphlet. [2], 28, [2]pp., wraps. 8.75 x 5 in. Covers worn, faded with some soiling. Author's presentation inscription, dated July 16, 1934. The Solitarian Press was founded by the pacifist vegetarian socialist poet J. Howard Flower in 1907 and published several Vermont writers. OCLC reports no locations for this, the second edition.

Chicago: George Matthew Adams, 1911. Hardcover. 190, [2]pp., boards. 8.25 x 5.5 in. Wanting frontispiece. Inscribed on front flyleaf: "Alice G. Brown ... from Nana Christmas 1931." Bound in blue-gray cloth over boards, block-stamped on front cover in black and white, with a portrait of a lady. Cover designed by Gustave Baumann. Spine soiled and a little faded, but front cover design bright and sharp. Scarce volume collecting articles originally published as part of a nationally syndicated advice/etiquette/musings column for women. An early cover design by Baumann, who spent most of his career as a painter and printmaker in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Moscow: Nauka, 1974. Hardcover. 340p hardcover with flexible boards, mild handling wear, foxing to endpapers. Numerous black and white illustrations of early Russian manuscript books.

Pamphlet. 31p., a dozen or so b&w reproductions and an author portrait photo, text consists of several checklists and a short bibliography. Softbound in 10x8 inch stapled pamphlet wraps, covers have picked up a little handling grime, has bumped corner-tips, staples are rusty with slight migration. De Pol primarily a wood engraver with a secondary talent.

New York: Parke-Bernet Galleries, Inc, 1957. Pamphlet. Unpaginated preliminaries, 46p., coated paperstock throughout with scattered b&w exhibit photos in-text, booklet in 6x9 inch stapled printed blue wraps. A bottom-edge dampstain affects every leaf and cover margin, staples are rusted with migration, a fair-to-good copy. Has no markings of any kind, nor a sales-result flyer. Sale number 1733; exhibition from Saturday, February 9 to date of sale.

Paperback. 344p., 5x7.5 inch wraps; 103 illustrations, small chip off front bottom right wrapper corner, wraps slightly worn along bottom-edge, light soil, slight toning, spine somewhat creased, small tears along front wrap and head and tail of spine, else in very good condition.

Mt. Horeb, WI: Perishable Press Limited, 1977. Paperback. [24]pp., wraps. 8.25 x 5.25. 72/150 copies, signed by the author. In an envelope with typed title. Poems. The Perishable Press was a vehicle for experiments in letterpress printing, papermaking, and binding, founded in the mid-1960s by Walter Hamady. Hamady collaborated on limited editions of the works of numerous poets of his time (Creeley, Ginsberg, Robert Duncan, etc.).

Victoria, TX: Cuneiform Press, 2009. Pamphlet. 36p., illustrations, wraps. 11 x 8.5 in. Covers a little wrinkled. With the 12-page pamphlet insert titled: "The Infernal Method," containing an essay on print and legibility (Edition of 350). Special issue with a long, early essay by Daniel Scott Snelson, "Simultaneously Agitated in All Directions: Structuralist Activity and Differential Reading," that "discusses the relationship between structuralism and the poetries of the mimeo era by presenting a detailed analysis of Form (a Cambridge-UK magazine published in 1966) and Alcheringa ( A journal published by Boston University in 1975)." With ads for Granary Books and Vamp & Tramp.

San Francisco: Paul Elder & Company, 1913. Pamphlet. [6], 7, [3] pp., frontispiece plate, illustration, wraps. Bound in green paper with deckled edges, toned along the edges; title and decorative illustration letterpress printed on the cover, in a border printed in gold ink. Text pages are laid paper with deckled edges. A short work of prose in which the female personification of patience is denied the pleasure of enjoying her garden by the drudgery of housework (caring for sick children, sewing clothes). Printed at the Tomoye Press in 1913, a couple of years after severe disagreements between John Henry Nash and Paul Elder.

Berkeley, CA: The Pequod Press, 1980. Pamphlet. [32]pp., oblong wraps. 4.25 x 5.25 in. Edition of 197, but this copy out of series. Inscribed in red marker on the colophon page by the author: "especially bound for Helen lee.". An alphabet book with each letter getting a four-lined rhyming poem. ("V is Victoria, / Great Britain's great Queen, / Whose presence pervades / The Baker Street scene.") This is the second Holmes alphabet composed by Ruyle; the third appeared in 1987.

New York: Century Co, 1891. Hardcover. 115, [3]pp., illustrations, boards. 7.25 x 4.75 in. Bound in pale ivory publisher's cloth with gilt stamped title and design on front board; on the rear board, a floral device and the words "Rosa Mundi," a reference to the final poem (probably a reference to Rosamond, Gilder's daughter, born the same year this volume was published). Boards toned and smudged; hinges split; lower right corners bumped. Presentation inscription to Eugene Field, with his armorial bookplate on the front pastedown. Binding designed by Sarah Wyman Whitman. Gilder was an influential poet and editor of Scribner's Monthly and The Century Magazines.
