Slightest edgewear to covers, perfectly sound, clean and unmarked, a very good to fine copy. A labor of love of course.

Issues present are numbers 1-3 and 5 (with the subtitle changed from "fortnightly newsletter" to "your newsletter." "In this bulletin, we shall try to tell alert intelligent Americans what they can do for democracy.... We shall describe specific ideas that can be worked out in your own community, suggestions, projects, stunts, study programs." Includes some discussion of civil rights, such as a response by Atlanta's Civic-Political League (a Black organization) to the racist governor of Georgia, discussing how the US must live up to democratic principles to effectively fight Hitlerism.

Includes Nelson Mandela's "South Africa: out of the stirke," Ruth First's "The gold of migrant labour," John Berger's "The penance of Europe," and more.

Knoxville: The University of Tennessee Press, 1989. Hardcover. xiii, 272p., illus. in text, second printing, very good in an unclipped dust jacket with a sunned spine panel. Covers women in education, nursing and civil rights in five southern states.

Swarthmore, PA: Albatross, 1961. 10p., staplebound booklet, minor toning and handling. Stapled inside the front cover is a dittoed note that begins, "Dear friends, We have been given your name as a leader of the Southern sit-in movement. Our magazine wants to print letters from sit-in students so that we may interest students throughout the nation in helping your cause..." The address label says "Ann Arbor D.A.C. c/o Ladinsky." Jack and Judith Ladinsky were two University of Wisconsin professors affiliated with the Ann Arbor Direct Action Committee, connected to CORE. Other contents include a debate over the abolition of HUAC, and discussion of whether grain should be sent to China to alleviate its famine.
