Boston: Printed by Ford and Damrell, 1834. Pamphlet. 44p. pamphlet, neatly disbound, covers foxed. Buzzell was the professed leader of a group of Protestants who attacked and burned the Catholic convent in what is now Somerville, MA, in one of the landmark events of anti-Catholic persecution in New England. Austin describes the devastation of the riot and describes the anti-Catholic expression of bigotry as un-American. Buzzell is recorded as having later said, "The testimony against me was point blank and sufficient to have convicted twenty men, but somehow I proved an alibi, and the jury brought in a victory of not guilty, after having been out for twenty-one hours.

Includes discussion of police chief Richard Hongisto's tactics against demonstrators, and his ultimate firing as a result of confiscating issues of the Bay Times with an unflattering depiction of him on the cover.

Berkeley: Berkeley Barb, 1968. Newspaper. 20p., folded tabloid underground newspaper, news, opinion, comix, events, sex, music, theatre, film, personal ads, lightly worn and toned on newsprint. Cover shows photos of burning barricades and student hurling something at riot cops in Berkeley; the banner headline proclaims "LIBERATED!". Inside: accounts of the rally "expressing solidarity with French students and workers" which soon escalated, with police assistance, into full-blown street fighting for a week. Centerspread is a medley of photos of demonstrators, policy with bullhorns and tear gas, barricades, and students next to piles of rocks. Also in issue: reports on Hare Krishna's Ratha Yatra Festival, the Shiva Fellowship's fifth marijuana pray-in, Stew Albert on Jerry Rubin's drug bust hearing in NYC, and transcript of Huey Newton's message to the solidarity rally.
