A nice copy, no ownership or other marks; unclipped dj is bright but has a small adhesion scar to front panel affecting author's name, and back panel has a light dampstain with offset color. A presentably good copy. "Such bltoches on a nation as race riots, lynchings, government corruption and graft, scandal in high places and the shocking growth of teen-age gangs provided the ingredients of certain explosion," (dustjacket).

Nottingham: Institute for Workers' Control, 1977. Pamphlet. 28p., 5.75x8.25 inches, stapled pamphlet, pages toned, else very good in stapled pictorial wraps. I.W.C. Pamphlet No. 53. Discussion of a secret document that revealed the planned closure of the collieries (coal mines) in the Ashfield area of Nottingham, and the subsequent events.

Milwaukee, WI: Socialist Party, 1939. Pamphlet. Single 8.5x11 inch sheet mimeographed on one side folded to make a 4.25x5.5 inch brochure. On the fight for unemployment benefits.

Eight page newspaper, 11x16 inches, creased horizontally, stain on front page and a few minor stains on inside pages, paper still white (printed on better than average paper). "Published by Unemployed Union Printers." Pro-labor newspaper, lead over the fold article "1600 back in garment strike, victory for the closed shop!" Includes a number of pro-labor articles, attacks Roosevelt's campaign for using scab signs.

San Francisco: California Democratic Council, 1964. Newsletter. 32p., 8.5x11 inches; slight rust on staples, some slight editorial marks on page 2 in pen, slight toning along bottom edge, else very good. Contents on the housing shortage, poverty and unemployment, and more.

Washington: American Association for Economic Freedom, 1940. Pamphlet. 15p., stapled wraps, 6x9 inches, staple rusted, date in red pencil on front wrap else very good condition. Text of an address given by Ryan at the Regional Meeting of the Catholic Conference on Industrial Problems, April 8, 1940. The Association was headed by W. Jett Lauck who was a close friend of John L. Lewis.

Chicago: Revolutionary Workers League, 1938. Pamphlet. 12p., 4x6 inches, wraps, evenly toned, small stains on front and rear wraps, else good condition. "The largest left wing split from the Trotskyist Workers Party (WP2) which left the party mainly as a protest against the latter's impending entry into the Socialist Party in 1936. Headed by Hugo Oehler and Thomas Stamm, it was also known as the Stamm-Oehler or the Oehler group. Many of its members split away from it (usually on the left) and formed or joined other splinters." *Goldwater p. xiii. Sidney Lens was involved with this group for many years. Oehler and Stamm split in 1938, this pamphlet is from Oehler's group.

The first is two pages, the second is a single sheet; both are evenly toned. The latter item has "From Revolutionary Workers League Chicago July, 1940" penciled on the verso. "The Association of Unemployed on Direct and Work Relief has declared war against the Cleveland Division of Relief and all the chiselers, cheats, liars and purveyors of hunger and misery who are employed by the Division of Relief... We have declared war against Governor John Bricker and Senator Taft and President Roosevelt who have connived to pay millions of dollars to the bankers and the builders of machinery for war while they have cut the relief allowances to the needy jobless and cut hundreds of thousands from the WPA and left them to be evicted into the streets to starve..."
