Wien: Bei l. W. Seidel, 1850. Fourth Edition, first published in 1839. 8vo size hardcover has tan and blue green marbled boards under leather spine and corners. 324 pages with red speckled outside pages. Firmly sewn binding. Half title page follows title page. Dr. Josef Skoda (1805 - 1881) is best known for his work as a pioneer in percussive diagnostics. The facq.org biography of Skoda says: "In 1839, Skoda published his treatise on percussion and auscultation. The drum-like tympanic resonance heard on percussion above an area of pneumonia or lung fluid is known as Skodaic resonance." An article about Dr. Skoda on whonamedit.com explains Skoda's development (or expansion of the work of Josef Leopold Auenbrugger more than 50 years before) of the fundamentals… Read More

We note the spine lists only the author and the cover lists only the illustrator. Author James Morier (1780-1849) used his experience as a British diplomat in Persia in writing this story. Hajji Baba was first published in 1824. Morier also wrote two books about his travels through Persia and the surrounding countries. Illustrator Harold Robert Millar (1869-1942), was best known for his illustrations of fairy tales and fantasy work. He was a collector of Eastern art, which inspired his drawings for this book. The movie, The Adventures of Hajji Baba, made in 1954, is based on this book. Light soil to cover and fray to top and bottom of spine. Tanned pages. Front pastedown is split in the seem, hard to notice, easily repairable. We noted three pages with small stains. Bumped and worn corners. Thanks for shopping with us! 100% of… Read More
