A beautiful large (10-3/8" x 13-1/4") silver print portrait of writer Gertrude Atherton (1857 - 1948) SIGNED by the photographer in pencil "Arnold Genthe/N.Y." below the image on the original 14" x 18" mat. Lovely, soft image of this writer best known for her books on California by a photographer also strongly connected to that state. On the verso of the mat are two small New York Historical Society stamps, one dated 5 May 1943, as well as the penciled date 16 March 1943.
