"His most satisfactory publication is Birdlore of the Eastern Cape (Johannesburg, 1941). This book, which is a very interesting collection both of birdlore and children's games, explains in detail the Bantu attitude to certain birds and indicates the Bantu interpretation of natural history. The author was stationed at a mission in Tembuland, Transkei, from 1920 to 1926. He later served prominently in the life and work of the Lovedale Missionary Institution and the University of Fort Hare.
