(Spohr & Poller, 52; Kainbacher II, p. 108) The author relates his experiences during a 22-month mission trip between November 1930 and August 1932, which took him through West, East and Southern Africa. .

Gift inscription reading "Aan Mevr. J de Villiers van U opregtevriendin M. Louw 2/8/'46" on front free endpaper. Elsabe de Villiers was born near Graaff-Reinet in 1861. This is a collection of letters to "Liewe Vriendin" relating to her experiences and impressions as a missionary in Nyasaland from about 1914. .

Herbert Alfred Brown introduces one of the truly inspiring missionary personalities of our time. His parish, set in 3,000 square miles of Stone Age New Guinea, includes some of the most primitive peoples on earth, living exactly as their ancestors lived a thousand years ago. .

'Boy from the kraal is the true story of a lad who, after having been brought up most carefully according to the traditions of tribal life, became one of The Salvation Army's best-loved African officers. A musician and linguist of no mean ability, his song-writing and translation work has greatly enriched the store of songs in the Bantu languages.' .

The Hermannsburg Missionary Society grew out of a religious revival in the region of Lüneberg during the mid-19th Century. The Society sent its first missionaries to East Africa but these were denied permission to preach in Gallaland and proceeded to Natal where they established a mission on the borders of Zululand. By the end of the century, 124 Hermannsburg missionaries had established themselves in South Africa. The item on offer here concerns itself with theological matters; it may be a critique of the Society and its approach - black letter script rather hard to read. .

'Gladys Stauffacher writes about an Africa that has been her backyard since the late thirties. Married to Claudon Stauffacher, whose parents' lives are featured in this narrative, she has served in and visited many of the places she writes about.
