In 1719 a farmer, William Harding, of the parish of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, left the whole of his estate to the founding of a charity to provide apprenticeships for the poor. Its history has been well documented and the author places it in the context of social history over changing periods. Includes the role of the notorious 18th Century MP for Aylesbury John Wilkes. The Council of the City of Dresden 1930 Hb, first edition, 22x28cms, 100pp, text in German and English, illustrations throughout. Fep impressed with stamp of Internationale Hygiene and with tiny label number 562 to bottom corner. Stamped 'Forge Santo' to bottom corner of every right-hand page. Paper covered

All profits from the sale of this book went to the funds of The Mudic Trades Benevolent Society which was founded by the author. Hb,ix, 246pp, 17 illustrations. Light tanning of endpapers and minor foxing to foredges and odd pages. Dj more heavily foxed, 5x5cm piece had been cut from spine toward the base. This had been repaired with paper insert. A VG copy in G+ dj.

London & New York: Ernest Nister & E.P. Dutton, undated Presumed first edition. Undated, probably 1890s from owner's date inside (1898). Hardcover book . Pictorial boards. Unpaginated. H: 17.5cm. This is a book in which dates of birthdays of friends and family can be recorded - it prints the months and days of the year, surrounded by humourous quotations and sayings, and illustrated throughout with coloured paintings and b/w drawings- these are lively and well done though the artist is not credited.The owner whose name appears on flyleaf verso in 1898 has written various names in ink through the book. Fair condition considering nature of the book and its usage: the boards have worn edges and are rather rubbed. The pages are mostly clean, some have handling marks; they are all present though three double pages are detached from the staples. Pictures available.

Bound in full leather, decorative gilt to board edges and spine, marbled endpapers. Front and rear boards detached, spine has 1cm corner loss top rear spine and slight loss to spine base. Some darkening to edges of endpapers, fep also detached. Odd fingermarks throughout. Contents tight and still VG. A rebind copy.

First edition Hardcover, All volumes Signed and dedicated by the author. Each volume 18x23cm, with list of principal events for the year to endpapers. Pictorial dust jackets and b&w illustrations throughout. This is a Fine set in near Fine dust jackets. Slight sunning to jacket spines but this does not detract from this being a very nice set. Eton College: Williams & Son 1876 Consisting of Short Memoirs of the More Eminent ton Men. HB, 1st ED, xiv, 481pp, 11 of 12 steel engravings designed and executed by Cavalier Gabrielli, (Marquis of Cornwallis not present). Blue cloth, black design to front board, gilt lettering to spine. Spine darkened, heavily chipped to ends, two 1cm tears to top of spine folds. Rubbed to all edges with slight loss of cloth to corners, darkened to all edges. Internally, glue mark to front pastedown where bookplate previously removed. A Good copy.
