Since the 17th century occasional drama performances took place in the park of Schoenbrunn, but there was no permanent building until Empress Maria Theresia commissioned Nikolaus Pacassi to construct the Palace Theater. In 1929 the Palace theatre was handed over to the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar (Academy for Performing Arts). It is now used as a rehearsal stage throughout the academic year, from October to June.

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1788-1862), he was a German composer, pianist, organist and conductor of the early Romantic period. He was the grand-son of the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn, initiated the "Bach Renaissance" in Germany, and is considered the greatest Gewandhaus conductor of Leipzig. He is widely known as Felix Mendelssohn.
