Description:
New York: DIA Films, 1970. Very good. An unproduced screenplay about disaffected upperclass youth in New York, seemingly an early collaboration between Trow, a New Yorker writer, and Ivory, part of the James Ivory, Ismail Merchant, and Ruth Prawer Jhabvala trio that formed Merchant Ivory Productions. The screenplay appears to date from the Viet Nam War era and explores some of the themes of Savages (1972), the first Merchant Ivory film based on a Trow script. The script is not dated but the first Merchant Ivory film released by DIA Films was Bombay Talkie, from 1970. No copy of this screenplay is recorded in the James Ivory papers at the University of Oregon. Title leaf plus 92 numbered leaves, printed rectos (front-side) only. Bound in printed vinyl Studio Duplicating Service covers with screw brads. Very good.

Description:
New York: Sarony, 1890. Ephemera. Very good. A mounted photograph of the Spanish dancer Carmencita, who was a popular entertainer in New York from 1889 to 1895. She posed for portraits by John Singer Sargent and WIlliam Merritt Chase. In 1894, Thomas Edison asked her to dance in front of his new motion picture camera. According to the Library of Congress's web page showing a digital version of the film, "Spanish dancer Carmencita was the first woman to appear in front of an Edison motion picture camera," making her likely to be the first woman on film in the US. In 1895, she returned to Europe where she toured for a time before she married a wealthy Russian who either committed suicide or was murdered by Carmencita after he lost his fortune gambling. Carmencita returned to dancing and toured the US in the early 1910s, where her press agents were happy to talk up her husband's demise in the newspapers. Albumen print, 3-7/8 by 5-1/2 inches, on a light brown mount with a rust-colored border and… Read More

Description:
[Los Angeles?]: Malcolm Stuart Productions, 1968. Ephemera. Very good. A comic Western screenplay by the writer who would give us The Exorcist a few years later. On the title page, Blatty is credited with the story and the screenplay, but the film was released as based on a novel by Frank O'Rourke. The film starred Zero Mostel and Kim Novak. 150 leaves, including an unnumbered stenographic department cover sheet and the title page, numbered to 144, with a number of combined and added leaves. The original version, dated 8/26/1968 and printed on light green paper, has been revised with sheets printed on varying colors of blue. Very good in goldenrod cardstock covers printed with the title, the producers, and the studio. Someone has written "Steno" on the cover in ink and there is a small number, 83, stamped above the date.

Description:
[Los Angeles]: Paramount, 1989. Ephemera. Very good. A late version of the screenplay for the first Jack Ryan film, who was played by Alec Baldwin, with Sean Connery playing the Soviet submarine captain Marko Ramius. James Earl Jones as Vice Admiral James Greer, the deputy director of the CIA. I compared the script to the opening scenes of the movie, and the film is much more taut; the changes could not have been made solely during editing and indicate that this version was revised before the scenes were filmed. The script is printed on golden rod paper, and ends with page 113 (with two unnumbered preliminaries), however, there are many inserted pages, marked with the letter A after the page number, also printed on golden rod sheets. By my count there are 141 total leaves. Bound with two brass brads in white cardstock with the Paramount logo in blue on the front cover. The title is handwritten in ink below the logo. Quarter-sized coffee stain at base of front cover.
