Description:
Seattle ::: University of Washington,,, 1968... First Printing of the First US Edition. A Fine copy (with an owner's name on the flyleaf) in a Very Good plus price-clipped dust jacket with a closed edge tear to the front panel and a small chip to the heel of the spine. When not teaching or working on his own art, Roethke took time to reach out to fellow poets, friends and colleagues, students, and editors through letters. Among his correspondents in this collection are William Carlos Williams, Marianne Moore, Katherine Anne Porter, Dylan Thomas, and Stanley Kunitz. without interpreting his work or expousing on symbols, Roethke does have much to say about the craft of poetry. He frequently enclosed drafts of poems with his letters asking for the recipient's critique.
