Among his correspondents in this collection are William Carlos Williams, Marianne Moore, Katherine Anne Porter, Dylan Thomas, and Stanley Kunitz. without interpreting his work or expousing on symbols, Roethke does have much to say about the craft of poetry. He frequently enclosed drafts of poems with his letters asking for the recipient's critique.
