Description:
Nedlands, Western Australia: University of Western Australia Press, 2000. VG+. First Australian Edition, First Printing. Paperback. PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY AUTHOR, CHRISTOPHER WORTHAM, on half-title page. Inscription reads, 'January 2001/For ------- ---------/with best wishes from/Chris Wortham'. l,337pp. Andrew Marvell (1621-1678) was an English poet, satirist and politican who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1659 and 1678. When Andrew Marvell died in 1678, virtually none of his lyric poetry had been published. In 1681 the Folio of his poetry was printed through the efforts of his housekeeper, Mary Palmer, who claimed to be his widow in order to obtain the execution of his estate. His lyric poems, most of which first appeared in the Folio, were virtually ignored, however, until the twentieth century, when an influential essay by T S Eliot secured Marvell's elevation to the very highest rank of English poets. His poems 'The Garden' and 'To… Read More

Description:
London: Methuen, 1992. Fine/NrF. First Edition, First Printing in d/w not price clipped. Profusely illustrated in colour and black-and-white. Pooh's story begins with the birth of his creator, A A Milne. Already a highly successful dramatist and novelist, he began, at a wet house-party in Wales in 1923, to write poetry for children purely as a diversion. The publication of a collection of his verse - 'When We Were Very Young' - in 1924, illustrated by E H Shepherd, was an instant success, marking the beginning of an exceptional association and launching Pooh's brilliant career. A fascinating book which covers the life of Milne and the children's books, ephemera, pottery, stuffed toys, and more, which resulted from the popular bear. With Index. D/w has a short edge tear (7mm long) at base of front fold flap; else a fine copy of a first edition, first printing SCARCE in this condition. Description:
London: Penguin, 1994. Fine. First edition, first printing. Paperback. 284pp. Profusely illustrated with photographs and line-drawings. Compiled by Ian Breakwell and Paul Hammond, the editors set out to explode the myth that books are a closed, escapist world. This book spans the spectrum of readings rituals and fetishism: stealing, eating and cooking books; books as status symbols, food for termites, aids to seduction and espionage; books associated with journeys, falling in and out of love, imprisonment and freedom; books and their relationship with war, death, religion, sex, night and day dreams.
