This two-volume set is Number 23 and precedes the first trade edition. Archibald Henderson was a close friend and companion of George Bernard Shaw for more than 29 years when this mammoth 1932 biography was published. The biography was authorized by Shaw, who carefully went over the manuscript. Indeed, this is probably the most complete and accurate representation of all aspects of Shaw's life, art, politics, and philosophy published before or since. This three-sectioned volume deals with the poisoner, the Marquise de Brinvilliers; a cruel and arrogant Russian countess, Vaninka; and finally, a notorious aristocrat, the Marquise de Ganges. The book is bound in a deep cerise cloth with a blind-stamped cameo illustration of two swordsmen fighting. The book has gilt spine titles and blind-stamped crossed swords on the spine as well. The spine is somewhat faded, with some fraying at the spine tips. The book is tightly bound, and the pages are clean with no marks, stains, tears, or signatures from former owners. She returned using the old Chisholm Trail. She was raised to womanhood in the Cherokee Strip, which was opened for white settlement in the famous"run" by 100,000 men, women, and children to stake land claims on September 16,1893. The author details what was to be the opening of the last frontier, Oklahoma. The book is inscribed "To Lucile" and signed by the author. The book is in Very Good+ condition.
