London, UK: The Architectural Press, 1939. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 9.25" x 12.5. H/B 165 pages plus index and 32 pages of advertisers of bomb shelters. This book was published at the outbreak of war in 1939. It details the Air-Raid Precautions Act 1937 and The Civil Defence Act 1939. It goes on to give details of the technical applications of the act and detailed plans for the construction of bomb shelters. A fascinating book which shows little sign of wear. The off-white cloth covers are slightly dirty but the book is remarkably well preserved. UK: Dunfermline Burgh Survey: Community Project, 2007. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 7.5" x 9.75. p/b 140 pages, plus map, condition is very good. This burgh survey weaves together a highly readable summary of the recorded information on Dunfermline's history and archaeology. Dunfermline was the seat of Malcolm Canmore and here he married Margaret. Several of their sons ware kings of Scotland and with royal patronage the Benedictine Abbey became one of the most important monasteries in Scotland. It was the birth or burial place of many Scottish kings, notably King Robert the Bruce. The medieval burgh flourished by serving the needs of visiting royalty and humbler pilgrims to the shrine of St Margaret. The Reformation and then the departure of the Scottish court to London led to a period of decline. But from the early eighteenth century Dunfermline reinvented itself as a leading centre for high quality linens, initially by hand loom weaving. Then the second half of the…
