Description:
1882 Fords, Howard and Hulbert first edition.
The book is a compilation of personal accounts from Civil War veterans of their military experience.
There is a gift inscription to Stanton P. Allen, from his wife, on a blank front matter page (as well as Allen's bookplate). Stanton Allen was a Troy NY resident, and was a Civil War veteran himself. He enlisted at age 14 in the 21st NY Calvary, was relieved of duty due to being underage, but after returning home ran away with three comrades and re-enlisted in the 1st Massachusetts Calvary.
After the War, Allen returned to NY State, married, and became a Methodist minister. He wrote a book about that experience. Later on, in the 1890's, he wrote two other books about his Civil War experiences. Was he inspired by the gift of this book?.
Condition of the book is Good. The binding is sound. Inside pages are complete and unmarked. The book shows general age related wear.
