He practiced medicine as Salameh Suleiman or "El Hakim el Alemani", "The German Doctor", and lived a nomadic life until a contact in Lebanon encouraged him to get there. In 1952, he would reunite in Berlin with his son, whom he had last seen at 18 months old, in 1944 when he was sent to the Italian Front.
