Specimen of the Art begins on Page 11: "L'Allegro, A Poem. By John Milton". Edward Copleston was a rector's son, born 1776, a scholar at Oxford, then a tutor, professor of poetry, provost, dean, (various schools) and Bishop of Llandaff. He died in 1849. His "Advice" piece utilized wit in an era when reviewers were being especially cruel (biographical notes).
