New York.: McGraw-Hill Book Company., 1961. Hard cover. Good. No dust jacket. Signed by previous owner. Top spine damage, lower spine discoloration. Top page block darkening smudge.. 1 Black, blue cloth over boards. 323 p. 22 cm. B&W archival photo sections, frontispiece. Double page map: Greenland, Northeastern Canada. U.S. Major General Adolphus Washington Greely's tragic arctic exploration story only began to emerge with this volume in the late 1950s. Earlier accounts were obscured by "wishful fantasy and sensational journalism" (from author's preface). Also known more properly as the "Lady Franklin Bay Expedition", author Alden Todd, at age 10, met Gen. Greeley who was then 80, and a friend of his grandfather. As an adult he researched the truth of the Greely arctic exploit.

A Simon & Schuster / Madison Press Book., 1991. First edition. Probable 1st.. Hard cover. Fine in very good dust jacket. Slight DJ edge wear to sealer.. Christopher, Peter (Photographs by). 1 Navy blue cloth over boards; gold stamped titles, spine and front. Numerous color illustrations, maps. Audience: General/trade. Nautical historic recreation: Dyson and Christopher beginning in 1988, set out to answer questions about Columbus: Who was he and why did he set out across 'the green sea of darkness'? In 1990, they joined a crew of Spanish nautical students aboard an authentic replica of the caravel, Nina, to recreate the voyage of 1492 across the Atlantic Ocean. Controversy has always followed Columbus and his claims; there is no less after this research, but there are some answers, leaving Columbus more human than iconic. Stunning in both text and the 250 visuals presented.
