First hardcover edition, with dust jacket, published by Scottish Academic Press, 1983. A biography of the 'Hero of Herat', Eldred Pottinger, who organized the defense of Herat during the First Afghan War until the siege was abandoned ten months later. 239 pages, with Index, Bibliography, Notes, and Glossary. Illustrated through the text with black & white photos and maps. Sturdy red cloth covered boards, with the author name and title imprinted on the spine in gold. No edge wear to the boards, corners are not bumped or creased. Jacket is intact with no tears, showing just some minor bumps from shelf wear. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Edges of the text block shows just a few light age tanning spots to the top edge. This is not a remainder, not a library discard. The attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.
