Issue number 8 of DoubleTake Magazine. Published by The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. Edited by Robert Coles and Alex Harris. The Spring 1997 issue. DoubleTake Magazine was a quarterly, large format magazine, that published the leading contributors in the fields of photography, essays, poetry, and literary fiction. Contributors to this issue include Susan Faludi, Edward hirsch, Verlyn Klinkenborg, Bobbie Ann Mason, Bill McKibben, Joyce Carol Oates, and George Tice. 9" X 11", 142 pages. This issue shows little if any wear, no writing, no crease marks, this is not a library discard. We have additional DoubleTake issues in our inventory. First trade hardcover edition, published by Dutton, 1987. The first edition was a series of 2,000 copies signed by the author, published by Vehicle. This is the first trade edition from Dutton. A collection of seven short stories, each about ambitious wanderers, by the author of 'Machine Dreams'. Rust red colored boards over light gray cloth covered spine with the author and title imprinted on the spine in gold and red. The boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or creased, all lettering on the spine is crisp. No edge wear to the boards. Dust jacket is not price clipped. There are two stain dots on the fore edges of paged 133 - 135 - see photo. Sewn binding is tight and square. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Hardcover first edition with dust jacket, published April 1939, by The Literary Guild. A collection of 24 short stories, including her O. Henry award winning, 'Big Blonde', as well as 'Horsie', 'Lady With a Lamp', 'Just a Little One', 'The Sexes', and more. Includes the stories that were included in her first two collections as well as three additional stories that had not been collected previously. The dust jacket has been price clipped, it also has a large chip to the spine - a triangular 3 inch long chip. Short closed tear at the top - about 1/2 inch, just above the second 'E' in 'Here', and a 1 inch tear at the back near the top left edge - rubbing and edge wear throughout too. Green cloth covered boards with the author name and title within a stylized black and gold field on the spine - all lettering and design elements are intact and not rubbed or worn. Hardcover first edition, published by Doubleday, 1943. No dust jacket. 320 pages, with Appendix. The 25th anniversary collection of award winning stories. Included are stories by Eudora Welty, Dorothy Canfield, Pearl Buck, Walter Van Tilburg Clark, Carson McCullers, James Thurber, William Saroyan, and several others. This copy has no former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Dark blue boards with the title on the spine, all lettering on the spine is still legible. Boards are flat and the corners are not bumped or creased. Some minor edge wear to the left side at the gutters, both front and back, and to the bottom edge. Edges of the text block are relatively clean. This is a WWII era book, so the paper stock is somewhat lower quality than usual. One short closed tear at the top of the last blank flyleaf, about one inch long. The attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.

First trade paperback edition, published by Picador. A collection of short works that first appeared in the Paris Review. Contributors include; Annie Proulx, Noramn Rush, Rick Bass, Denis Johnson, Miranda July, Elizabeth Gilbert, and eleven more. Introduction by Stephin Merritt. There is a gift inscription for the former owner on the title page. No creasing to the spine, though there are some bump marks from shelf wear to the cover. Age foxing spots to the flyleaf pages and title page. Not a remainder, not a library copy. No further writing besides the inscription. The binding is tight and square. Some of the characters of these ten stories also appeared in his first collection; 'Family Dancing'. The dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped. Boards are flat, and the corners are not bumped or creased. Edges of the text block are clean - this is a remainder copy though so there is a thin black swipe mark to the bottom edge of the text block. Sewn binding is tight an square. First edition hardcover two volume set, with slipcase box, published by George Braziller, 1963. 'The Reservoir' includes twenty stories ans sketches, 182 pages. 'Snowman Snowman' includes eighteen 'fables and fantasies', 182 pages. Both volumes includes the dust jackets. Jackets show just a few dots of edge wear to the spine panels. Sturdy cream colored cloth covered boards with the titles and author name imprinted on the spine in dark brown. Cover boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or creased. No edge wear. There are some every light age tanning dots to the top edge of the text block. Bindings are tight and square. One small 'squiggle' mark in black pen on the first flyleaf of 'Snowman' but other than that there is no writing and no former ownership marks on either volume. Binding is tight and square. There is some sun fading to the back cover, a horizontal band about 1/4" tall across the top, and a vertical band about 1/4" across along the right side at the spine. First American hardcover edition with dust jacket, published by Random House, 1942. Eleven short stories, the follow up to her 'Out of Africa'. The dust jacket is intact, and has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Jacket has some wear with a closed tear of about an inch on the top edge, chipping to the head and heel of the spine, a chip on the spine of about a half inch across, edge wear to the tips of the corners. Maroon cloth covered boards with the title and author name in gold on the spine within a black field, Some light edge wear to the bottom edge of the boards. Blue-green topstain has a couple dots of staining. Sewn binding is tight and square. As this was published in 1942, there are some interesting wartime features - 'The Men in the Service Need Books!' note on the back panel of the jacket for example.
