A married set in very good condition. Second edition, 1758, London. Original full leather boards. Volume 1 has a new spine (sometime in last 50 years) by Edward F. Gruver, Washington, DC. V.1 has bookplate and pencil notations of prior owner and booksellers, no other markings. The first four leaves after the map are loose at the bottom and remain attached at the top. Volume 2 has the original binding, no interior markings of any kind. First edition, first printing, with dust jacket. Book is in terrific condition. No markings inside of any type, no creases, no tears. Some mild toning and dust to edges. Scarce dust jacket is 98% complete. Although it has many old tears they received tape a long time ago which has held it together. The front is especially nice with only a small closed tear touching picture. The corners and edges have chips. Now in Brodart archival cover. Collectible book in like condition. First edition bound in vellum. Munich, 1647. Condition is Good. Primary condition issue is missing spine. Text block binding remains sound. Vellum boards with Yapp style fore-edges and typical vellum warp. Interior has modern stamp (R151) on interior front pastedown, ffep with pencil notation and older ink info, title page with old library stamp, prior ownership inscription dated 1699, half title has pencil note at bottom. No other interior markings or problems. Quite decent old paper remains supple. Paginates: [24], map, 480, [12] with original blanks. This is a small format book (12 mo) approximately 12.5 x 7 cm. Complete document: 2 leaves and a large (29 inches) fold out chart. Published by Congress, 1826. Document is heavily foxed but complete; if trimmed it would look much better but that is an aesthetic choice not a collectible one. This chart does not open all the way because the corner is folded into the binding; it could be cut open judiciously but again that is a choice for the next owner to make. The chart is a detailed examination of deserters and the dead. Analyzed by nationality, state of origin, age, occupation and more. A very cool and very scarce document. This is complicated so bear with me. This is a sammelband (collection) of four titles from the publisher Muir. Listed in order of binding: First title "Life of Thomas Paine" (1833) is not attributed but appears to be abridged Sherwin's biography of Paine (See OCLC: 933006301). Second title "Rights of Man" (1833) requires no explanation. Next two titles written by Peter MacKenzie are rare and make up most of the value. Third title "Exposure of the Spy System" is the 1832 first edition of this work. Includes frontis of Hardie's grave. The fourth (final) title "Trial of James Wilson" is the 1832 first edition. The whole thing paginates: 48, viii, 104, [2], 242, 48. Bound in high quality quarter leather with marbled boards fine binding by Starr Bookworks. Defects are: page 21/22 of "Rights" has a repaired hole affecting a few words (see scan); list of Paine's works has some check marks; title page of "Spy" has small edge tear not affecting anything. Full year compilation of The Forum magazine. Two volumes containing 12 months of issues. Library binding by Tusculum College Library. I found some occasional pencil marks and smudging but overall very good condition. Sound binding. College stamp on paper edges. End papers never had pockets - just some pencil notations. Individual monthly copies of The Forum magazines are rarely found. If you are looking for a particular author or article these bound volumes are pretty much the only way to get them. Six months of magazines bound as single volume. Library binding. Every article related to World War 1. I am not a historian and do not recognize most of the authors except Caruso. There is an interesting advertisement for Overland automobiles. Also an article debating the health effects of tobacco on soldiers. Part of page 109-110 (an article on taxation) has been excised.
