The inset shows a group of women playing croquet on the lawn of the Sea Shore Cottage in Atlanticville (North Long Branch) nearby: This establishment had been opened three years earlier by Margaret Cook (Durbin) Harper (1830-1886), as "a Summer Resort for the young working women of New York, who are in need of rest and recreation, with but a limited time to spare and insufficient means to pay the charges at the usual resorts".
