Written to mark the 100th anniversary of the Parish of Saint John's [Episcopal], originally called St. Luke's. The original building designed by Richard Upjohn was destroyed in the Bangor Fire of 1911, along with the church records. Upjohn's design for Saint John's was one of the first examples of English perpendicular Gothic in America. Original light green paper wrappers, minimal bumping on lower corners and spine edges.

Facsimile of the 1896 edition, with a new introduction by Frank Wood. The most comprehensive bibliography of the State of Maine; an indispensable reference. Volume I has a few brown specks on the fore-edge else Fine, Volume II in Fine condition. The dust jackets of both volumes show some silverfish activity on the spines, including some holes and on the front and back of the jackets to a lesser extent. The jacket of Vol I has a small stain on the front of the jacket.

This long lost work represents an important chapter in the history of folk song scholarship and sheds light on the thinking of Phillips Barry and his collaborators about folk songs, such as the origins, re-creations, textural patterns and singing styles of the songs. Barry laid important groundwork in folk song scholarship; this volume is a significant addition to his work, and includes Barry's extensive discussion of Child in the introduction. The many songs included in this volume, with musical notations, are a major contribution from Fannie Eckstorm and Mary Smyth's primary informants, especially Susie Carr Young, Annie V. Marston, J.P. A. Nesbitt, Horace Priest and Mrs. James McGill. Fine.
