Father Macmillan, in his preface, speaks of the difficulties he met due to the lack of early records. This makes his book more important, as his primary sources are no longer alive. The binding is tight and strong, but the last 2 sections were misbound, and the edges are discolored. The red covers are near fine. Dustjacket stained on spine and flap edges, with price intact.

His first novel, The Married Land, Houghton Mifflin, 1962, was praised by William Carlos Williams. His works include three volumes of poetry, two novels, and an audio-visual opus, "Symbolic History". Gilbert Sweet published the book after the death of his wife, Elizabeth who began her career as a medium in the home of Leah Fox Fish, oldest of the Fox sisters, which put Mrs. Sweet at the epicenter of spiritualism at the height of its popularity. A Very Good, very attractive, bright copy; a small nick at the top of front joint. Paste-downs and endpapers lightly foxed. Photos happily provided on request.
