Description:
London: Printed for J. Walker, 1788. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 12mo. A very good four volume set in contemporary, full tree calf binding with double lettering pieces in red and green. Complete pp. [iii]-vii, [1] 222; [2], 206; [2], 238 & [2], 198. No half-titles which may or may not be wanting, but the pagination for the prelims to vol. I might suggest that one is required? Very good bindings with a little rubbing, a couple of volumes slightly chipped to the head/tail of the spines, corners lightly bruised. Contents clean and tight, manuscript (Greek?) initials to title pages dated 1788 otherwise unmarked, no foxing, paper crisp. A very good set. A Rare Eighteenth Century Novel. We have managed to located just one other copy at auction in the last thirty years and that at Sotheby's sale of July 21, 1993, where it made £1,000 on the hammer, though seemingly not such a nice copy. Referenced by: ESTC T068744.

Description:
London: The Graphic, 1889. Painting. Very Good. No Binding. First Edition. 69cm x 138cm. A spectacular, original, panoramic hand-coloured engraving of the West End of London. Large, measuring 44cm x 112cm (minimum dimension - not measured out of the frame). Tastefully framed, mounted and glazed (modern), the outer frame dimensions 69 x 138cm. Issued as a supplement to the Graphic in 1889, with the original folds evident, but not conspicuous. The hand-colouring is very well executed and subtle, though could possibly be later? Minimal wear only, bright and fresh, no foxing. Westminster Abbey is the foreground with Pimlico on the left of the panorama, Downing Street area to the right; St James Park, Trafalgar Square Buckingham Palace, Green Park feature in the middle ground with Chelsea, Kensington and the Albert Hall in the background. A superb item..

All specimens collected between 1846 & 1869, mostly by Orr with contributions from other recognised contemporary Bryologists [see notes below]. This collection was assembled by David Orr, Assistant to Dr Moore at Botanic Garden, Dublin; each specimen mounted and pencil labelled with a facing page giving details of the specimen, location, collector and date found. The paper covered boards are delicately decorated and to the front the title is in red ink, the spine is silk and shows a little loss and wear. Contents clean and tight, the colours remain vibrant, paper bright and unmarked, no inscriptions or annotation, matching endpapers. To the rear of the book on the pastedown is the original book advertising plate - The Toyodo, Tokyo and Mr .M. Okado Tokyo . A very good copy of this rare and stunning example of early 20th century Japanese illustrated children's books. Found on COPAC.
