Printed paper portfolio containing 21 loose sheets, including one page of letterpress and 20 halftones after original works by the author. Inscribed on front cover: "A Ben Shan [sic] / mio maestro e mi [illegible]," signed by the artist and dated in 1964. From the library of Ben and Bernarda Bryson Shahn, with estate label tipped on inside front cover. Attractive, privately-issued portfolio of Minei's drawings from the 1960s, mostly large-scale portraits and life studies rendered in ink wash. Minei (b. 1922) is an important Italian realist, one of the founders of the New Roman school and a student of Giorgio di Chirico. This item very scarce; none others noted in commerce, and OCLC returns no locations.

Caswell; light wear from handling with a few short closed tears, else Very Good or better. Flyer advertising the spring show in the Greenwich Village, "The Art Cradle of America," May 22 thru June 15, 1952. Illustration shows a beret- and pipe-clad artist painting the Washington Square Arch. Flyer not in OCLC as of July, 2015.

Small closed tear to title page of the plate descriptions, else a very Near Fine set, completely unworn, unfaded and apparently unread; in the original cloth slipcase, which is clean and sound; all housed in the original cardboard shipping box with printed title label. Uncommon thus.

Tiny split at bottom spine edge of upper cover, early signature (including title page) disbound at time of publication, else Very Good and sound. Czech translation of Stendhal's 1832 novella "The Abbess of Castro," attractive avant-garde cover art by Otakar Mrkvicka.

Thick quarto; crimson cloth, with titling and elaborative decorations stamped in gilt on spine and front cover; viii, 236pp; illus. + 20 hand-tipped color plates. Some trivial wear to board edges, offsetting to endpapers, with old, shallow dampstain to right edge of text; Very Good+. Basis for Lewis Gilbert's 1957 British comedy film of the same name, starring Kenneth More, Diane Cilento, Cecil parker and Sally Ann Howes.

Octavo; black cloth with front cover illustration in color; 260pp; frontispiece and two unnumbered leaves of color plates; text illus. Near FIne, lacking the dustwrapper. Bookseller's ticket at rear (Traver's Bookstore, Trenton, NJ). Compellingly, the book bears the printed bookplate of "Orville Wright - McDonogh 1873" to the front pastedown. From what we can discern, however, this is not the ex-libris of the famous inventor and aviator; rather more likely that of one Orville Wright Donnelly, born 1923 and a 1940 graduate of McDonogh School in Owings Mills, MD.

Signed by Padgett on the title page. Faint whitish transfer to lower edge of rear cover from corresponding damp mark on dustjacket; clean internally; Very Good+. Dustjacket is unclipped, with light wear and dustiness to extremities, and faint damp mark to lower edge of rear panel; Very Good+. Attractive collaborative work between the second generation New York School poet and American pop artist.

Inscribed on the title page by the editor and illustration John Thomason to Morrow Roosevelt. A straight, slightly loosened copy, gently rubbed with slight wear to corners, patch of abrasion to front pastedown: Very Good. Jacket price-clipped, dusty, and rubbed, with marginal creases and short tears: Good or better. Marcellin Marbot (1782-1854) was a Napoleonic general who earned recognition for his military memoirs. This issue with illustrations by John Thomason (1893-1944), author, illustrator, and lieutenant colonel in the US Marine Corps. [62372].

London: J. Mawman, 1819. Three volumes; octavo (22cm.); full contemporary mottled calf, black gilt spine labels, Vol. III recently rebacked in the same style, all edges speckled brown, later 19th-century endpapers; frontispieces to each volume, that of Vol. II hand-colored; additionally, 43 plates throughout, including 15 hand-colored added plates from the McLean edition published six months later. Leather a bit dried and extremities rubbed, some shallow loss of leather at spine ends of first two volumes, Vol. II shows some soiling to four leaves, else a Very Good and sound set, housed in a recent cloth clam-shell box.

Inscribed by Alicia Austin on title page, "To Elisabeth/with love," with small original drawing of a winged heart. Cloth boards (hardcover); dustjacket; unpaged; 40 color plates and numerous b/w text illustrations. A tight, Near Fine copy in slightly worn dustwrapper. The trade edition was limited to 2000 copies. Nice collection of works by the Hugo Award-winning fantasy & science fiction illustrator.

Modest rubbing to joints and extremities, some faint creasing to wrappers, with a few faint scuffs to front cover; Very Good. Reproductions of Quintanilla's subtle pencil sketches of scenes from the Spanish Civil War; this was probably the most popular of the many such sketchbooks that appeared in the wake of the conflict. With an introduction by Ernest Hemingway. There was a simultaneous "deluxe" edition of 400 copies in boards. HANNEMAN B34.
