An absolutely superb first edition of this slim but stunning collection of this renowned Arizona painter, illustrator and graphic artist (1909-82) whose vibrant colors and near abstract style here reminds one of LeRoy Neiman. The front flyleaf bears a huge inscription and signature from the author/artist in brown fineline: "To Louella & Joe / ole / De Grazia / Arizona / USA / 1968." An exceptional copy of this uncommon title.

First edition of this superb reference that follows American battle art from the French and Indian War through the First World War. Mild ex-library copy, with number neatly stamped on spine and faint blind-embossed stamp on three pages.

First edition, tight and pristine, of this cryptic oddball production self published by the artist (born 1949) known for collage and installation work. The text of Edgar Allen Poe's short poem "Alone" appears phrase by phrase on all versos, with all facing rectos are images of Smith herself and small household objects. (Strangely enough, six lines of the Poe poem are missing, probably through simple omission.) The rear wrapper bears a small full-length portrait of Smith, with her facsimile signature at upper right; below this she signs boldly in black ballpoint, dating it 1997. While a publication period of 1970s has been suggested for this booklet, a more recent time frame, perhaps the 1990s, seems more likely. By the way, Alexis Smith was born Patti Ann Smith and has nothing to do with the Hollywood actress, although she changed her first name to Alexis in tribute to her.

Paper loss at head of jacket spine, and jacket also age toned, rubbed and edgeworn. A tight and decent second printing of this important typeface survey by the renowned and incredibly prolific typeface designer and bibliographer (1888-1944). From the personal library of noted sculptor and painter Carl Tolpo (1901-76), who pens "1928 or 9" on the front flyleaf. Laid in is a heavy stock 5½" X 3¼" card, n.p., n.y., on which Tolpo handsomely pens some text, apparently for an artwork on a subject with which he's closely associated -- Yellowstone Park. It read in black India ink: "Lower Great Falls / of the / Yellowstone River / GRAND CA[NYON]," and again this same text, as Tolpo experimented with different type styles. Lincoln is depicted standing behind JFK's famous rocking chair, clutching a copy of "Profiles in Courage," head bowed. Facing him is a head-and-shoulders profile of Kennedy.
