I am taking the book with me this week-end when I visit my farm. Maybe it will give me some inspiration...." Boldly signed in black ink. Budding historian Gates had published "Amberglow of Abraham Lincoln and Ann Rutledge" in 1939 and greatly admired Sullivan's 6-volume opus, "Our Times: The United States, 1900-1925.
