Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 2001. Hard Cover. Very Good+ binding/Very Good+ dust jacket. Folio. xiv, 280 pp., illus. First edition, first printing. As issued, in publisher's cloth with dust jacket. A very bright copy with only a trace of sunning at the very top of the boards; top corners are trivially bumped; contents clean. A thorough study of a famed avenue recognized for its exceptional architecture but undoubtedly more for its controversial Confederate monuments, all of which were removed in 2020-2021. This is a remarkable study traces all aspects of the avenue including the history of the statues.

Description:
San Francisco: James Linden Editions, 1989. Soft Cover. Near Fine binding. Oblong folio. [28] pp. First separate edition, one of 77 copies from an edition of 87. Printed on Rives BFK and stitched into burgundy covers with a printed paper title label; three photographs are dry mounted and each signed below by Mundy. The covers are a trifle sunned near the spine, otherwise, a fine copy of Mundy's triptych that is here coupled with Le Guin's chapter, "Where It Is," from her work "Always Coming Home." Linden remarks in a note, that Mundy had long wanted to "produce a triptych: three photographs taken quickly, with spontaneity as the effective aesthetic binding agent." It was Le Guin's text that proved to be a catalyst that sent out Mundy and Linden out into the Valley on a foggy June morning to take these photographs which Linden brought together with Le Guin's chapter.

Description:
1887. Beautiful mounted photograph (103 mm x 142 mm) mounted on a card 109 mm x 165 mm. Back is blank. Light soiling only; largely a fresh image; the back has some discoloration at the edges. Alexander M. Calder (1846-1923) was a Scottish American sculpture most known for his hundreds of designs contributing to the sculptural decorations, inside and out of the iconic Philadelphia city hall including his sculpture of William Penn that caps the dome. He entered and won the competition to create Meade's bronze statue; it was completed and unveiled in 1887. Meade had been a commissioner of Fairmount Park and had designed many of its walks, drives and bridle paths. Additionally, he was a local Civil War hero, having been instrumental in the Union victory at Gettsyburg notwithstanding all the criticism that comes with a close investigation of that battle--a win is a win. This preliminary work differs from the accepted model in several ways: primarily that Meade's head is slightly inclined and glancing… Read More

Nashville: Turner Publishing Company, 2007. Hard Cover. Very Good binding/Very Good dust jacket. Quarto. x, 205 pp., illus. First edition, first printing. In publisher's binding with dust jacket. A few points of pressure damage on the front cover, otherwise a nearly fine copy; dust jacket has a couple closed tears, one at the bottom of the front fold and another at the bottom of the rear panel near the joint; additionally some subtle damage at the same place where the front board is damaged--given the image on the front cover it is difficult to see this damage making it quite a presentable copy in spite of it. Profusely illustrated with a wonderful collection of 19th and early 20th century photographs of the Virginia capitol.
