Description:
Toronto: Macmillan, 1974. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Full brown cloth. 154 pp. Full-page B&W illustrations. Some very slight soiling to dust jacket, fine overall. In October 1942 the 85-ton RCMP vessel St. Roch sailed into Halifax harbour to become the first ship to navigate the fabled Northwest Passage fro west to east. The tiny wooden vessel had set out from Vancouver in June 1940 on the voyage, which was to have taken only 90 days. Dogged by misfortune, pummelled by storms, hemmed in and battered by the the menacing Arctic ice, it was more than two years before the crew reached Halifax. Sgt. Farrar tells an exciting and inspiring story of the rugged persistence and cheerful endurance of his skipper and companions.

Description:
St. John's, Newfoundland: DRC Publishing, 2009. Soft cover. Fine. 8vo. Soft cover. vi, 241 pp. B&W map in text. Fine condition. In January 1883, Howard Blackburn, a Nova Scotia native fishing out of Gloucester, Massachusetts, and his dory mate Thomas Welsh, a 16-year-old from Grand Bank, Newfoundland, went adrift from their schooner, the Grace L. Fears, while fishing off the Burgeo Banks. Five days after their ordeal began, a barely alive Howard rowed ashore at Little River (now Grey River) on Newfoundland's south coast. Tommy was dead. In Drifting Into Doom, best selling author Earl Pilgrim tells a gripping story of tragedy and survival, including the heroic efforts of Aunt Jenny Lushman, Susie Bushney, and all the people of Grey River who did all they could to save Howard's life.
