Conrad Lycosthenese [1518-1561] was a humanist and encyclopedist born in Alsace. The present two books are a collection of apothegms, porverbs, and parables from ancient Greek and Roman writers and philosophers. Rubbing and small tears to wrappers. Trimming to edges. Several leaves cut at top margins towards end of book two, with loss to text and page numbers, starting on p. 85. Lacks endpapers. Otherwise a very good copy.

A scarce Arabic vocabulary "to provide the American who works with Arabs in the Al Hasa region of Arabia a nucleus of words and phrases which will aid him in the accomplishment of his tasks. This revised edition was printed just eight months after the first edition, and focuses more on the Qatif dialect rather than the Hijazi dialect. "The Qatifi dialect is by no means presented intact, however, but modified to embrace usages in Hofuf, Bahrein, and Jubail, with some accommodation to those in Bedu as well." The work covers safety terms, social expressions, interview phrases, time, place and direction, quantity and manner, indefinite pronouns, together with supplements on cardinal numbers, days of the week, time, comparison of adjectives, verb conjugation, etc.
