Title in gilt on yellow leather spine. All edges red. xvi, 303 p.p. Engraved frontispiece and author portrait by Arnoldo V. Westerhout, plus eleven [of twelve] plates by N. Dorigny N. after Mauro Oddi. Lacks plate facing Canto VI, which has been replaced with a photocopy reproduction. Small chips to lower margin of plate facing Canto II, not affecting image. Light staining to leaves. Ownership signature in pen to front pastedown. Trimmed pages, partially affecting text at top-edge. Tiny holes from bookworm to gutters of endpapers and spine. Pasteboard and vellum somewhat soiled. Light rubbing at outer-edges. Interior clean, crisp. A very good copy. Vincenzio Piazza [1670-1745] recounts the capture of the fortress of Bona [Algeria] by the Tuscan Fleet in 1607 in this dramatic narrative poem.

[8], 878. small tear along upper front pastedown endpaper. bookworm holes throughout, affecting some passages of text. Vellum soiled, slightly warped boards, but otherwise in good condition. Polydore Vergil was an Italian humanist and scholar. While living and working as a diplomat in England, he was commisioned by King Henry VII to write a history of Britain up to the Norman conquest. Vergil completed the text in 1512-13, which was later published in 1534. The manuscript version appears as 25 books, but in 1521-24 Vergil made a series of additions, expanding the sections into into an eventual 26 books.

Bumped edges, boards slightly warped, some soiling to spine partially affecting the title. Some yellow staining to pages, with pen markings on verso of front free endpaper and fly leaf. Otherwise in good condition. Cornelis van Alkemade was a historian and antiquities collector. He studied law at the University of Leiden, and became a notary in 1680. He contributed works on the history of Rotterdam. Translated from the title, this book is an "introduction to the ceremonial and the ceremonies of burial and heraldry.

A Dominican friar and writer, Remigio Nannini produced religious as well as secular works, and poetry. Nannini published "two collections of orations drawn by historians (the first, Military Orations collected by all the ancient and modern historians, Venice, 1557)" [Cantimori, Delio. Rubbing and wear to spine and labels, with two large tears to front marbled boards, bumped edges, and light foxing to vols. 1&2, but still a nice set in good condition. Paul Gabriel Antoine (1678-1743) was a French Jesuit theologian. Theologia Universa established him as a leading catholic scholar, followed by his even more succesful Theologia Universa Moralis, first published in Nancy in 1726, and a Roman edition in 1747 was published with several more additions, which was used widely among both clergy and college students.

He Chip on top right corner of front board [approx 1 inch width] with smaller chips and wear to edges. Small tear to edge of p. 43, text unaffected and small hole to bottom of p. 353. Light foxing. Pages browned. Otherwise a very good copy.
