Quarter brown leather and brown marbled boards, gilt lettering and compartments with 5 raised bands on spine, 4 to., 186 pp. Marbled end papers, 24 plates. No marks in book, binding solid, slight wear to corners. A few of the tissue guards are creased, but no tears. Text in French. Berthelot (1827-1907) was an organic chemist who first conceived the idea of the synthesis of organic compounds, was active in the study of explosives and dyes, and discovered acetylene. A handsome book. Book condition VG.
