Some minor foxing to the blank reverse of the portrait frontis in volume one otherwise a bright and clean copy throughout. In the publishers dark blue cloth bindings with gilt lettering to the spines. Front panels with circular device in gilt, green, blue and silver with four illustrations alongside, all in gilt and within a shield border. In the rare original dustwrappers with dark blue lettering to spine and front panels with cut out holes on the front panels to show the circular emblem. Some very minor chipping to the edges of the wrapper for volume one, volume two's wrapper with a large thumb sized area of loss to the front panel and a little more chipping to the extremities. Overall a lovely tidy set of books kept in wonderful condition by the still very good original publishers dustwrappers.

Swan Sonnenschein & Co. London. 1888. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (8.7 x 5.9 inches). 8 full page mono plates. A couple of the plates have small ink marks to the margins, not affecting the image at all. Overall a veyr good copy in publishers blue cloth with black and gilt illustration to the front board in between gilt lettering and black double ruled lines at the top and bottom. Spine illustrated and lettered in gilt. Yellow endpapers. Cloth is a bit rubbed and the spine is darkened, although the gilt still very visible. Overall a very good copy of this interesting book. Purports to be the reminiscences, noted down by the author, of an old negro at Apia, the first "white man", i.e. British subject, established in the group.

Blue plain endpapers. Top edge gilt. Bound for Harrods. Binding a bit bumped and rubbed but still attractive.

Anderson, was orignally published in 1799. Six full page engravings, including portrait frontis of Cook. Complete. Previous owners named scratched out on the title page, without any loss to the page. Bound in contemporary full reversed calf. Spine with raised bands, ruled in blind. Red title label, ruled and lettered in gilt. Loss to the top f the spine, exposing the headband, which is loose. 2 inch chip to the top of the front blank endpaper. Overall avery good copy in an early calf binding. :

Errata slip loosely inserted. Litho frontis and one litho illustration in the text, both with original tissue guard. Original paper covered boards with litho illustration to front board. Spine heavily chipped. Four holes to front board, penetrating through to the first few pages. Boards rubbed and bumped to edges. Foxing throughout. A good copy of a scarce work.:

The compartments rule, lettered, and fully decorated with floral devices, all in gilt. Both boards with matching triple ruled borders and decorative floral, dot and ruled line design. Board edges with single gilt ruled lines. Turn-ins decorated with triple ruled lines, dots and floral devices, all in gilt. Plain green endpapers. All edges gilt. A lovely copy of this 19th century poem in a fine, highly attractive, but sadly unsigned by the binder, leather binding. Lorne was a Liberal politician, son in law of Queen Victoria, through his marriage to Princess Louise, and in 1878 was appointed Governor General of Canada by Disraeli. Yellow coated endpapers. Inner hinges cracking. Some gatherings still unopened. Spine a bit rubbed and with some chipping to the cloth at the top and bottom of the spine but still overall a near to very good copy. Scarce in original cloth.

(7.2 x 4.9 inches). viii, 86pp. Illustrated with frontis and 14 smaller engraved and photo illustrations in the text, a mixture of views, portraits and plans. Original publishers brown paper wraps with dark green lettering and design to front cover. The covers have one small crease to the front and are toned and marked but still very good, while internally the pages are very clean and fresh.

Vol. 1:xxxix, 344pp. - Vol. 2: viii, 312pp. Very good copies, untrimmed in the original publishers printed wraps. Neat engraved booksellers label (Langues etrangeres vivantes Bobee et Hingray, Libraries, Paris) stuck onto the front free endpaper of volume one. Edges untrimmed. Some creasing to the corners and minor loss to the paper on the bottom of the spines but overall a very good copy and uncommon in the original paper wraps.

A very good set in contemporary full tree calf bindings. Spines ruled in gilt. Red title and circular number labels, gilt. The hinges are cracked and rubbed but all still holding. Top and bottom of spines with some minor loss and some rubbing but overall a good set.

Longmans, Green, and Co. London. 1900. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (7.7 x 5.3 inches). Portrait frontis. Ten maps and plans (one folding). 32pp of publishers adverts dated 7/00 at end of book. Previous owners neat ink name written on the blank front free endpaper and some browning to the blank endpapers otherwise this is a tight, bright, and clean copy. Black coated endpapers with no cracking at all. Book feels firm and square. Publishers deep red cloth, spine and front board lettered in gilt. Spine with just a hint of fading but overall a much better copy than usually found. 5000 copies published 12th October 1900.
