Melbourne: Lothian Publishing Company, 1916. Limited Edition. With an essay by James MacDonald and some remarks on Australian art by the artist. Frederick McCubbin (1855-1917) was an Australian artist and an outstanding member of the Heidelberg School of Australian impressionism. A student of Eugen von Guerard, McCubbin's paintings remain iconic images of pioneer life in the wilderness. They were keystones in building a mythology relating the Australian landscape to national identity. Edition of 1000 copies, fully signed by McCubbin. Quarto, forty-five illustrations in colour and black and white (some are tipped plates with printed tissue guards); original gilt decorated cloth, a little rubbed, some preliminary foxing but still a lovely clean copy.

Dynamic publication of the Victorian Artists Society featuring a wide range of reviews and editorials which provide an excellent insight into the Australian art scene of the 1940s. Four volumes, small staple-bound quartos in illustrated wrappers, black & white plates and line drawings throughout; covers are thumbed with occasional stains; a good set nonetheless.

London: John Lane, The Bodley Head, 1914. The first serious study of Australian bohemian artist, Charles Conder. Published four years after his death. Quarto, original quarter cloth, 121 illustrations including a sepia photo frontispiece of Conder, some plates in colour, head of spine slightly marked, boards a bit scuffed, endpapers browned, a very good copy.

Melbourne: Lansdowne Australian Art Library, 1972. First Edition. Renowned art historian Ursula Hoff provides detailed biographical information about this enigmatic bohemian artist in a splendidly illustrated monograph. Includes a newspaper clipping of its review from 'The Age'. First edition. Quarto, original green papered boards, profusely illustrated in colour and black & white; back board a little scratched, a nice clean fine copy with the dust-jacket.

London: Published by P. & D. Colnaghi, for the Author, 1934. Fine. Lionel Lindsay, the famous Australian artist and critic, greatly admired Keene, the illustrator and humorous artist best known for his drawings for Punch. Lindsay believed Keene was "a truly original character...he presents us with the unparalleled paradox of the most serious artist of his time - in all that pertained to his art - devoting his genius to the service of humour...". Tipped-in are two autograph letters from Lionel Lindsay to the Australian collector Harry Chaplin. Tipped-in also is an undated autograph letter by Keene himself with a sketch and a fragment of another autograph piece. First edition, and very scarce: only 130 copies were printed, all numbered and signed by the author. Folio, original quarter cloth, frontispiece portrait and 55 fine collotype plates, each with tissue guard. Aside from a little shelfwear, this is a fine bright copy, uncut in the original binding with a slightly torn and stained dust-jacket.

Sydney: Angus & Robertson, 1968. First published in 1920, this was the first monograph devoted to Conrad Martens. This revised and enlarged edition has been improved in numerous ways including a highly successful remaking of most of the coloured plates. Oblong quarto, brown cloth, 68 full page colour plates in colour, sepia and black & white, striking portrait frontispiece of Martens; small ink spot affects front board, a near-fine copy.
