N.p.: N.p., 1963. Archive of eleven double weight photographs of Chubby Checker in concert, apparently unpublished, by noted photographer Michael Montfort, from his estate. All but one of the photographs are bear the stamp of German weekly newspaper "Bild am Sonntag" crediting Montfort, and a separate date stamp of "5.8.63." Born in Freiburg, Germany, Michael Montfort began his career working as a photojournalist for German magazines such as "Stern," "Quick," and "Bild am Sonntag." In addition to shooting numerous rock and jazz performances, he covered Queen Elizabeth's 1965 visit to Germany, the aftermath of the Six Day War in Israel and Egypt, and the May 1968 protests in Paris. Montfort emigrated to Los Angeles in 1973 and began working as a freelancer. Four years later, on assignment for the German literary magazine "Rogners," Montfort was sent to photograph Charles Bukowski. Aided by the case of wine he smartly brought with him to their first meeting, Montfort connected with the publicity-shy…

N.p.: Russ Meyer, 2001. Archive of thirteen vintage oversize photographs by director Russ Meyer, including twelve in color and one in black-and-white. Five photographs signed by Meyer on the verso. All of the photographs are from an edition of 20 and are numbered on the verso, with all twelve color photographs numbered "1/20," and the black and white photograph numbered "2/20." Struck circa 2001, from Meyer's personal collection. Meyer is best known for his distinctive films in the sexploitation genre of the 1960s and 1970s, but also worked as a still photographer throughout his career, shooting for Playboy in the magazine's early years, including three centerfolds, one of which starred his then-wife, Eve Meyer. The earliest photographs in the collection, consistent with the "nudist" aesthetic of the period, are "Model Playing Ping Pong" (circa 1962), and "Blonde in the Grass" (circa 1964). Notable in the archive are images of Meyer regulars Lorna Maitland and Haji. Three of the photographs show…

N.p.: N.p., 1966. Archive of five vintage oversize press photographs by Michael Montfort of actor Klaus Kinski, his second wife, actor Brigitte Tocki, and their then five year old daughter, actor Nastassja Kinksi. From the photographer's estate. The photographs show Kinski with his family, the images generally painting a picture of Kinski as a loving husband and doting father, and an altogether happy family, images in stark contrast to both Kinski's already well deserved reputation for violent and erratic behavior and the truth of his family's domestic life. An early example of the self aware myth making Kinski would engage in for much of hsi career, though running counter to the public image he would embrace and embellish later in life. Born in Freiburg, Germany, Michael Montfort began his career working as a photojournalist for German magazines such as "Stern," "Quick," and "Bild am Sonntag." He covered Queen Elizabeth's 1965 visit to Germany, the aftermath of the Six Day War in Israel and…

Artists represented include Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Sly and the Family Stone, Santana, Jim Morrison, Tina Turner, The Allman Brothers Band (including standalone shots of Duane Allman), and others.
