Paris: Delarue, 1850. Original Wraps. Orig. printed light gray wrappers chipped with slight loss at one lower corner (front cover) and one upper corner (back cover). Very good.. 272 pages in text. 15 x 10 1/2 cm. 25 numbered full-page plates (some double-paged), plus 32 supplemental plates numbered A-Z, AA-FF, with additional plates and illustrations within the text - all in black and white. Text in French, interior clean, initial decorated letters, Glossary of Principal Terms. Practically speaking, artificial flowers differed only in a single feature -- whereas real flowers wilt, 18th and 19th century cloth, paper or wax blooms were relatively imperishable. In the Victorian era artificial flowers were ubiquitous, a woman's garland for all seasons including her death. Initially fashioning flowers was considered an art and craft explicitly reserved for genteel women. Ex-library, internal marking only, discreet one centimeter round on verso of some plates.

New edition with 153 hand-colored engravings. Strutt was an English engraver, and writer on art. BRUNET Vol. 5, p.566, noting earlier edition. BRYAN Vol.5, p.138. DNB notes, "Although the amount of Strutt's work as an engraver is small....it is of exceptional merit and is still highly esteemed." Index of sources from which the illuminations were taken . Limited edition, copy 67 of 200 on Arches Paper (total edition of 275). This, one Marty's earliest works contains 14 full page etchings. The artist, famous for his Art Deco fashion designs was one of only four artists to contribute to every year of La Gazette du bon ton a leading pochoir fashion magazine in Paris and in Europe (1912 to 1925). Text in French, bright, very clean copy, book label of Harry S. Goebel.

Forty-seven hand-colored engraved plates with tissue guards, plus hand-colored vignette title, and two engraved plates of music. Grafstrom, poet and historian wrote the text, and Forssell made the engravings. Index. List of Plates and errata. Lovely copy, plates and text clean, fresh and bright; bookplate, raised bands, spine panels richly guilt in floral motifs, marbled endpapers, maroon morocco spine label printed in gilt.

Np: Np, 1950. First edition. Spiral Bound. Partly spiral bound black (front cover) and beige (back cover) stiff boards. Very good. 22 unnumbered leaves. Oblong folio, 25 x 36 cm. Numerous watercolor pen and ink illustrations, pencil and charcoal, and tipped-in designs [nine are tipped-in fabric samples]. Fashion manuscript by a young Coos Bay, Oregon student. She includes skirt, blouse, and sleeve designs for wool, cotton and synthetic fabrics, all are designs for women with varying proportions -- dress and fashion designs to scale with fabric samples depicting plain, knit, basket, pile and silk weaves, as well as weaving instructions.

Limited edition, copy 522 of 1500 signed by Arthur Elgort, and also inscribed "N.Y.C. Dec 84 To Julie with love and friendship, Arthur." Elgort worked for a number of fashion magazines including British Vogue, American Vogue, Glamour, GQ, Rolling Stone, and Teen Vogue, but he credited Mademoiselle for his big break. Purportedly, all copies were sent to friends and colleagues. Clean, very fresh copy.

Prato: Ditta Ruggero Benelli, 1900. First edition. Hardcover. Panels are faux-diced shagreen, gilt lettering first panel, two brass rivets front cover for hanging the display. Very good. 27.5 x 13 cm. Salesman's sample advertising display for Super-Iride, 48 dyed sample mounted, eight panels bound accordion style, each panel as noted previously, folds out to approximately 40 inches when displayed. Color plates mounted on first and last panels with 48 dyed fabric sample in a wide range of colors, lettering in black and red. Super-Iride solid dyes are Azo synthetic, more stable than vegetable, and/or aniline dyes provide a distinct advantage for coloring wool, cotton and silks as they are highly resistant to sun and repeated washing. This brand is perhaps best known for the advertising poster of a looming red devil drawing forth a rainbow of color from a wooden barrel depicted here in the first panel.
