Abergavenny Church. Original hand coloured aquatint etching. Drawn and Engraved by J Cullum. Ca 1840. Sheet and plate size 265mm x 205mm including blank border of 15mm and title Now known as St Marys this Priory was a Monastery of Benedictine or Black Monks, founded in the reign of Henry I between 1100 and 1135. Abergavenny Church is recorded in the poem The Worthiness of Wales written near the end of the 16th Century, by Thomas Churchyard who toured Wales in 1586. This poem, dedicated to Her Most Excellent Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, gives much information respecting the Church and the Monuments. The poem was first published in 1587 and reprinted in 1776. Extensive alterations took place in 1828 and Cathedral and Church architect Gilbert Scott was to comment in 1874 "Few Churches have suffered from decay and injudicious repair than this." Boydell J. Beeston Castle in Cheshire. J Boydell.engraved 1747 from an old drawing in the possession of Wm Cowper Esqr one of the Antiquarian Society. Sheet size 51cm x 35.5cm, plate size 49cm x 34cm. Copper engraving on heavy paper. Strong print of the Castle rising from the Cheshire Plain in the background, with people enjoying leisure time and shepherds tending to sheep. An attractive Boydell print in near fine condition.

Sheet size is approx. 340mm x 260mm and the engraved plate area is approx. 255mm x 180mm. Laid down by publisher. An attractive item with good contemporary colouring in bright and clean condition.

Llanthony Abbey. Tinted Lithograph Ca 1840. Sheet and print size 335mm x 230mm. Founded in the 12th century, this was the first Augustinian priory in Wales. The lithograph shows visitors to the Abbey and also residents of the homestead which was established from the west range by Colonel Sir Mark Wood at the end of the 18th Century and sold in 1807 to the poet Walter Savage Landor. Cropped to edges. A bright and clean print from a scarce view point.

Detailed engraving of church and graveyard with 2 people in the foreground. As recorded in the Views Of Thanet Drawn and Etched by B T Pouncy. Some light foxing, hardly visible on printed area. One light stain on lower margin, touching titles but not affecting printed area. A scarce, large print from this notable craftsman.

With wide blank margin, engraved frame and title. Two very small ink marks on title, otherwise in tight, bright and clean condition with strong plate inprint. A delightful print, empahsising the more rural aspect of this area.
