Description:
from 1880 Dean of Salisbury, thanking him "for your pretty little Vol., which has followed me here to the wilds of Kincardineshire, at the foot of the Grampians", 1 side 8vo., 7 Abbotsford Crescent, St Andrews crossed out, Phesdo, Laurencekirk, Thursday 19th July no year, probably Boyd was from 1865 Minister of the First Charge at St Andrews. His writings include 'Recreations of a Country Parson', 1859, 1861 and 1878. Boyle's 'My Aids to the Divine Life' came out in 1883.

James Hay, Esq.," 1777-1838, of Seggieden, 4 miles SE of Perth, "Gentleman, Cornet ['Vexillifer'] of His Majesty's Perthshire Fencibles Regiment of Horse, was... admitted Burgess and Guild Brother... on account of the singular favour and benevolence with which the said Magistrates embrace him", vellum, 1 side 5¼" x 9½", title on verso, Aberdeen, 10th July lacks seal Cornet was the lowest rank in a regiment of horse, equivalent to Ensign in the infantry, both ranks replaced by Sub-lieutenant in 1871. Hay rose in the Militia, becoming a Deputy Lieutenant for Perthshire, 1803, and Lt.-Col. Commandant in the Eastern Regiment of the Royal Perthshire Local Militia, 1808.
