The Empress Maria Feodorovna died on 9th June 1880. The Tsar married the Princess morganatically on 18th July 1880, and created her Princess Yurievska. with eight other men and women on a balcony, the man next to him wears a sash of office, John is the tallest figure of all, 8¼" x 6¼" in frame 9¾" x 11¾" and glazed, no place, no date, circa John was a commanding figure in Kronstadt, home of the Russian Navy, 20 miles west of St. Petersburg at the mouth of the Neva. John travelled widely in Russia and thousands visited him in Kronstadt. Alexander III died in his arms in 1894. Father John was canonized outside Russia in 1964 and inside Russia in 1990.
