The head/tail of the spine is bumped, a small surface rub, with loss, to the bottom edge of the rear cover, and there is some VERY SLIGHT fading to the base colour at the edges. No dustjacket, presumed as issued. There are No Inscriptions, but there is a stamp to the blank reverse of the front free endpaper = 'Dyfed County Library', which itself is overstamped with an oval 'Cardiganshire C P School' stamp. In Düsseldorf: Arnz & Co. Good with no dust jacket. 1856. Presumed First Edition. Hardcover. Note: LACKS 8 of 48 Plates - see details further on. ALL TEXT in GERMAN. In dark burgundy cloth-covered boards with blind-stamped decoration and bright gilt titling to the front board only. Spine faded, and corners bumped with scraped tips. Head and tail of spine chipped and a repaired tear to the top rear edge (2cms). Internally, (apart from light foxing patches here and there, some pages worse than others, as usual with these volumes) generally very clean and tight but does LACK 8 plates - Nos: 3, 7, 8, 15, 17, 30, 45 & 46. - and plate 36 has been mis-placed as Plate 3. The pagination is rather odd but all text/illustrations seem complete, some pages are numbered - others with woodcut illustrations are not - but I have been through it page by page and think I am correct.
