Staples are rusty, and some light 'rubbing' to the spine. Otherwise this is old shop stock that was never sold and is in Excellent condition apart from the staples. NO date but most of the books I had from this 'buy' were from the 1920s/1940s. The covers are printed in bold primary colours - Red, White and Blue, and the inside is illustrated in blue and white, with the text in blue. 16 pages, plus also illustrated on the inside of the covers in the three colours of the covers. Delightful illustrations, but unascribed. Charming little book. ; 16mo 6" - 7" tall .

Very Good pictorial cloth boards in beige and rust with a Greek Warrior print designed by Alexander H. Williamson, and with dark brown titling to the spine and front cover. The head and tail of the spine are slightly 'pushed' due to storage - but covers are VERY clean, tight and bright, having been protected by the d/j. In the original publisher's pictorial dust-jacket. The front flap is price-clipped. The top edge is a little creased and the inner edges discoloured. The base colour of the d/j is a lime green, the d/j spine is slightly faded, but all titling, etc, is clear. NO damage. The edges are a little darkened/dusty here and there, but the overall the d/j is Very Good, and is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks Very Good. In the original attractive pictorial and blind stamped blue morocco-grain cloth, with gilt titling and decoration to the spine, and a gilt illustration / part title to the front cover. The design is by John Leighton. Signed "JL" in gold as a monogram at the base of the vignette in the base foliage. The head/tail and corners of the book are 'soft' and rubbed, with a little light fraying, as are the edges, and some of the gilt is wearing away on the centre of the illustration. Small slits/tears to the top and bottom edges of both sides of the spine, but overall a very sound and attractive copy. Despite the small splits in the outer cloth as noted, ALL Hinges are tight - outer and inner. ALL fore-edges gilt. This was the first UK printing of the book in hardback, as opposed to the soft covered edition printed earlier in 1946 by Zephyr Books, Stockholm & London, which was the first edition illustrated by Peake in the english language. This Hardback BOOK is in blue cloth with gilt titling/gilt illustration to the spine, with a little dulling to the gilt on the spine, and some light edge fading to the covers, but overall near VG, tight, clean and sound.
