In the original blue cloth boards with gilt titling to the spine and an attractive bright gilt circular 'MacCarthy' decorative device to the front board. The head & tail of the spine are a little 'bumped' with a small loss to the blue cloth at the foot of the spine - now coloured to match - and a small 1" split to the front bottom side of the spine - now neatly re-glued. The blue of the spine is a little faded/patchy and the gilt titling isn't as quite as bright as on the front board but all is clear and visible. The corners of the boards are lightly 'bumped'. Contemporary full calf - sound but with some damage to the leather. There is a 1" split/loss to the front top inner hinge, the rear bottom hinge is splitting (0.75") and the leather generally is scratched/marked/rubbed with some patches surface rubbed or completely missing the leather. The spine has 7 gilt bands (not raised) and a (chipped) burgundy leather Title label lettered in gilt.
